Monovision Correction With Refractive Surgery

چکیده
FACTOR S INFLUENCING MONOVI SI ON’S SUCCE SS Patients’ Expectations The goal of monovision is to increase patients’ functional vision for daily tasks without the aid of glasses. This endpoint, however, does not preclude a person’s ability to use glasses for tasks requiring clear binocular distance vision (ie, night driving) or sharp binocular near vision (ie, prolonged reading). Although some patients are satisfied with monovision, they face disadvantages such as less-than-ideal distance vision; the possible need for glasses when driving at night; two eyes, each focusing differently; and the adjustment involved with this form of correction.1-4

Associations of presbyopia with vision-targeted health-related quality of life.
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the associations of presbyopia and its correction, particularly monovision optical correction, with vision-targeted health-related quality of life. METHODS The National Eye Institute Refractive Error Quality of Life (NEI-RQL) Instrument was prospectively self-administered by subjects from 6 medical centers in the following age and correction categories: subjects with emm...
متن کاملOptimal amount of anisometropia for pseudophakic monovision.
PURPOSE To determine the optimal target anisometropia for pseudophakic monovision. METHODS Thirty-five bilaterally pseudophakic patients who received monofocal intraocular lenses were included in the study. Binocular corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) and binocular distance-corrected near visual acuity (DCNVA) and stereoacuity were measured after simulating 1.00, 1.50, and 2.00 diopters ...
متن کاملSurgical management of presbyopia
Presbyopia, the gradual loss of accommodation that becomes clinically significant during the fifth decade of life, is a physiologic inevitability. Different technologies are being pursued to achieve surgical correction of this disability; however, a number of limitations have prevented widespread acceptance of surgical presbyopia correction, such as optical and visual distortion, induced cornea...
متن کاملStereopsis and Patient Satisfaction in Myopic and Hyperopic Individuals Selecting Monovision Correction by LASIK or LASEK
Purpose: This study was designed to measure binocular function, patient satisfaction and to evaluate postoperative outcomes of presbyopic patients selecting monovision correction either by laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) or Laser Assisted Sub-Epithelial Keratomileusis (LASEK). Methods: We carried out a Retrospective chart review of 86 selected patients 40 years and older, treated with refr...
متن کاملExcimer Laser Correction of Presbyopia: The Final Frontier
The correction of presbyopia with excimer laser surgery on the cornea is the ultimate goal for this type of surgery, since all other treatments for refractive defects have been successfully developed and implemented. Surgery with excimer laser is safe and extremely effective with today’s standards; therefore, most manufacturer companies are working and devoting great research funds and efforts ...
